About Neal Sellers
Writing has been a passion since elementary school. In fact it was there that I wrote my first novels. I believe they are in storage, and I hope to find them and share them here with you one day soon. I fell in love with baseball at an early age and one of the titles of the novels I do remember writing was called “Rookie of the Year.” It might have been 7-10 pages (lol), but that was a lot for a 3rd/4th grader. Growing up I seemed a natural storyteller as I would create different characters with voices and act out scenes. I coulda been a conten- I mean actor (lol).
In Junior High School, I was encouraged to try out for the school production of “Pippin.” But I wasn’t confident in my acting ability then, not to mention you had to sing. Although I sang in my church choir, I couldn’t “sang” like friends Inaya Day, Erna Mettayer (R.I.P.), and Nathan Simmons. But I digress …

Since I’m name dropping here, I’ll go on to say I went to school with Raphael Sbarge, Kyra Sedgwick and Michael Diamond (Mike D), as well. Then it happened … Hip Hop.
Acting took a back seat and I became a Hip Hop junkie. Studying the music, studying the local emcees and crews in East Flatbush, some that went on to achieve stardom. I’m still in love with Hip Hop today, but I will admit I’m stuck in a particular era.
Living in Brooklyn and growing up on hip hop, I’ve been fortunate to know and grow up with a host of hip hop pioneers. I’ve also met a number of celebrities in my lifetime, including my favorite, Prince.
All of these friendships and experiences fueled me in writing raps, song writing, and producing.
I graduated from Walden and went to the University of Rochester for undergraduate studies. I went on to graduate and then attend and graduate law school at Hofstra University.
I started this journey on March 27, 1997. Because life happens, ironically, I completed The Cackling of the Crows on March 26, 2017, twenty years later, almost to the day. The journey continues …
